“The Seeds Of Love” version Super Deluxe, enfin !

On l’attendait depuis des années, la voilà enfin la réédition 3 CD + 1 blu-ray du chef-d’œuvre pop de 1989 du duo Roland Orzabal / Curt Smith, alias Tears For Fears. Rendez-vous le 9 octobre.

Neuf studios, quatre producteurs : en plein trip perfectionniste (on pourrait même dire steelydanien), Roland Orzabal et Curt Smith ne s’étaient rien refusés pour faire de “The Seeds Of Love” le magnum opus de Tears For Fears. Mission accomplie : quand il arriva dans les bacs en août 1989, cet album ambitieux, accessible et ultra-sophistiqué à la fois en subjugua plus d’un.
Dès la chanson d’ouverture, la majestueuse Woman In Chains, la voix, sublime, de la soul woman gospellisante Oleta Adams entra instantanément dans la légende, sans parler de l’entrée percutante de Phil Collins à la batterie… A peine remis de nos émotions, la non moins spirituelle et habitée Badman’s Song nous laissait tout aussi pantois : intro incroyable de Manu Katché, qui faisait la paire avec Pino Palladino à la basse électrique (futur maître à jouer de “Voodoo” de D’Angelo)… Et bam, troisième chanson troisième merveille, psychédélico-beatlesienne cette fois : Sowing The Seeds Of Love, soit I Am The Walrus de John L. resongé avec maestria, refrain magique à la clé… Et re-bam, Advice For The Young At Heart, encore un bijou pop-soul au digressions steelydaniennes (yep, encore)…
Et le grand Jon Hassell dans Standing On The Corner Of The Third World... (Avec toujours les insécables Katché & Palladino.)
Et puis le crépusculaire Swords And Knives…

Jusqu’à Famous Last Words (hanté, encore une fois, par la trompette de brume de Jon Hassell).
La perfection, oui, rien d’autre.

“The Seeds Of Love” était le troisième album studio de Tears For Fears (un groupe dont était fan un certain Miles Davis). Sorti en septembre 1989, il fut rapidement certifié platine en France avec plus de 300 000 exemplaires vendus (des chiffres qui laissent rêveur aujourd’hui). L’édition Super Deluxe contiendra évidemment l’album original, mais aussi des faces b rares, des mixes alternatifs, des démos, des répétitions inédites et un nouveau mix 5.1 réalisé par Steven Wilson lui-même (grand fan du groupe lui aussi) en collaboration avec Roland Orzabal. La liste des titres bonus ci-dessous laisse rêveur. Vivement le 9 octobre !
